Swaathy PS | The idea is to create a Network of Decentralised Integrated Waste Management Infrastructure which aids in the clearance of black spots through intervening at transfer and yard area.
Project description
Project idea
The network consists of transfer points, parks and Decentralised Integrated yards. The major yard will collect waste from NBG's processes, segregates and stores. The minor yard will collect waste from BG's processes to a limited extend, segregates and transfers to the major yard.
Need for the project
Some part of any street/road has a permanent black spot where garbage piles up. There are many such black spots across Doddanekundi ward mainly around non-Gated communities. The development of a black spot not only creates pollution, but the garbage also affects traffic movement. The common man's notion of waste being rubbish has led to the stigmatisation of people who handle the waste.
Objective of the project
The Intervention eventually ensures control in open waste dumping, waste burning and hence a better street/road in terms of public hygiene and traffic movement. By involving the Informal sector (Ragpickers) from the slums to assist in the waste segregation, their livelihood can be improved.
