Project description
Project idea
To design pedestrian network systems that not only serve the purpose of transition but also as a destination. Single-use transportation land such that are currently only commute oriented is to be converted into inhabitable and activity-filled zones.
Need for the project
By 2050, two-thirds of the global population will live in cities and most cities are being built for cars and less for pedestrian engagement. It is crucial to transform our cities into places that are easier and more fun to live in and less impactful on the climate. The street network systems are in constant decline due to improper maintenance of footpaths and encroachment of edges which make the overall street-level experience substandard.
Objective of the project
The intervention helps promote walkable roads by improving the connectivity between lake edges, parks, and urban voids. This provides an opportunity to create interesting, safe, and fun walkable streets within the cityscape creating memorable experiences of distinctive characters.
Project site details
Site selection criteria
1. Landuse indicates densified residential zones and mix/commercial intermediate streets
2. Second criteria: Contains streets that are accessible to waterfronts
3. Third criteria: Existing land use and 2031 land use shows urban green pathways with the presence of parks
4. Fourth criteria: Availability of multiple modes of transit and access points
5. Fifth criteria: Site must support pedestrianization while improving traffic congestion

Main access roads are Marathahalli main road, kundalahalli main road
Key features are Munnekolala lake, chinnappanahalli lake, Nisarga park, AECS layout, Spice garden footbridge, CMRIT college.
