Francis George | On Street parking holds advantages for a retail and pedestrian environment by giving shoppers the opportunity to make a quick “stop and go” purchase.
Project description
Project idea
Parking on most streets in most of the ward is un-managed and haphazard. The idea is to provide designated space for parking and accommodate unmet demand for public space on thriving neighborhood retail streets or commercial areas.
Need for the project
Car parking is a major problem in this ward. High parking tariffs and traffic congestion due to visitors in search of a parking place are only a few examples of everyday parking problems. Often parking occupies anywhere between a quarter to a half of the entire street right-of-way. In the case of markets, it discourages consumer spending and destroys the user's comfort and delight.
Objective of the project
The concept is to tackle car-parking problems by designing adequate numbers of suitable car parks at appropriate places. Also adding activities, throughout the day and week ensures a public space is well-loved which also encourages more social mixing with a greater sense of safety and comfort.
